I really love the creative freedom that comes with owning a small business. Over the past almost two years, I’ve had complete freedom to create the brand of my dreams, to design the packaging, to formulate the products, to continue to evolve the business as I see fit. It’s really an amazing thing to have an idea and to bring it to life with the total freedom to develop, change and grow it according to your own vision.
Starting January 3rd, you can find me in Bali, Indonesia! I’ll be there for a few months, getting to know the culture, working with new, native ingredients, and taking plenty of time for self-care and pampering. I’ll also be traveling thru parts of India, Nepal, Thailand, and Japan more briefly. If I’m not working on Wabi-Sabi, I’m either traveling or planning my next overseas adventure. Every new place inspires new ideas, new creations.
This is really hard to answer, I have so many favorites! Right now, I am really loving Organic Guava Seed Oil, which I stumbled upon in my research almost one year ago. It’s not an essential oil and is, in fact, wonderful for sensitive skin, yet it smells EXACTLY LIKE GUAVA! It’s tropical and sweet and SO delicious. Not to mention it has an impressively high content of Linoleic acid (something like 76%), is completely non-comedogenic, and is useful for healing acne, acne scars, and more. For someone with sensitive, acne-prone skin like myself, this is a dream ingredient.
I am most obsessed with my AKALIKO Chia Rose Radiance Nectar and MULA Amazonian SuperMask. I can be very impatient, so I can’t help but love their real, immediate/overnight results.
Using soap on your face is a big no-no if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin! If you’ve ever experienced chronic acne (like myself), you’ve probably been tempted, or even encouraged, to cleanse your face off day in and day out in hopes that it would reduce your acne. In fact, most soaps/soap-based cleansers disrupt your skin’s natural balance, healthy pH, and dry out your skin - resulting in more acne, more irritation, more sensitivity. My skin is most happy when I avoid soap altogether. I opt for an oil-based cleanser, cleansing balm, or natural saponin cleanser (like my SAGGA Manuka Rose Cleansing Grains) and my skin is SO much happier.
I’d love to talk to animals!
When I was nine years old, I created my own gossip magazine called Star Search and made two whole issues using magazine clippings and my own writing! When I was 13 years old, I started my own clothing line, EC - I would cut and glue and pin pieces of my own clothing together (and actually wear them!) I designed a whole collection of tops and dresses.
I’m really looking forward to Indonesia, as well as India, Nepal, and Japan in the next few months! The next continent I travel to, though, will definitely be South America.
Beauty is authenticity. How beautiful is it when you meet someone who is genuine and kind and comfortable in their own skin? There is nothing more beautiful to me than being true to who you are, being honest to yourself about yourself. It is so easy to be distracted by money, possessions, prestige. Especially in a society that values money over kindness, that tells you that you, on your own, are not pretty enough, not this enough or not that enough - to be your authentic, imperfect, best self or to at least strive towards that, is the embodiment of beauty for me.
